The Face Masks | On Rotation

Tuesday, May 24, 2016

I was following @misskihoro who had a brilliant idea to treat herself to a face mask every two-three days. In this vein, I thought I would come through and share my favourite DIY masks to cover all skin types.
I must admit sometimes I am too lazy to do a facemask but once a week on Selfcare Saturday or Sunday it's that little bit of indulgent me time that is sooo needed. Anyhoo on to the face mask recipes.
For these three masks, I used ingredients from my kitchen that you all probably have;

Turmeric -  this spice is wonderful/full of wonder. It is an anti-oxidant,anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. If you suffer from acne it reduces the size of those pesky spots whilst killing the nasty bacteria. The yellow pigment also helps with giving you a glow coz it helps even out skintone. I used this almost every 3 days in the run up to my wedding and not to brag but my skin was glowwwiiing!
Bentonite Clay - This clay is amazing for sucking out any gunk from your pores. If you have oily skin, its great for getting rid of some of that extra oil. You can pick up some from SheabyAsal
Honey - Another wonder ingredient, honey is soothing, moisturising, an anti-oxidant and anti-microbial. This is a dry skin girl's bestie.
Plain Yoghurt - It contains lactic acid which is an alpha hydroxy acid that dissolved dead skin. It can act as a gentle exfoliant and help get you a natural glow whilst preventing future breakouts. Always go for full-fat yoghurt never that fat-free stuff.

I am a dry skin girl as I have mentioned too many times.  I have this mask on rotation every weekend. I mix in half a teaspoon of Turmeric, 1 teaspoon of honey and two tablespoons of yoghurt in a small bowl. Apply it all over my face and let it soak in for 30mins then rinse off, your face may have a yellow tinge which goes away.
Warning; Use your dark coloured towels to dry your face after using this mask!

If you are fighting spots or acne, this mask is great to reduce inflammation and get those nasties. Mix half a teaspoon of Turmeric with 1-2 tablespoons of honey. Apply and leave it on for 30 mins. You can do this twice a week for added benefits.

This mask is great for normal-oily skin types, the lactic acid in the yogurt helps to get rid of dry skin and bentonite cleans out your pores. Use 2 tablespoons of yoghurt to 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay, mix, apply and leave for 30mins.

Tips
- Use rosewater or aloe vera juice in your bentonite clay mask instead of yoghurt for moisture
- Add a drop of lavender essential oil to your mask for some aromatherapy goodness
- Try multi-masking if you have combination skin, use a bentonite clay mask on your oily bits and a yoghurt and honey mask on your dry bits.

DIY masks/are super, marvel at how much your skin glows after a few weeks of using these masks.
Apart from DIY masks which off the counter masks would you guys recommend?
