Quick Detangle Tutorial

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

So we promised a series of natural hair tutorials and here's one for you: a quick detangle time saver that's both effective and easy to do. Sidenote: we are really getting a handle on this vlogging thing! Yay us!

Enough chit chat; on to the video!

If you have any questions, feel free to hit us up on the comment section below.

Wait wait - before you say it, we know, Nyachomba's hair has a somewhat "loose" curl pattern, so we will demonstrate the same technique on Mary's curlier hair in upcoming videos.

Enjoy the day good people.

There is no friend as loyal as a book

Mary and I are lovers of books and we thought it would be a grand idea to share what we have been reading.  In our first instalment, I will introduce you to some books that have rocked my world (literally) in the past week.

Female Chauvinist Pigs is a book that every woman should read! Ariel Levy describes the rise of raunch culture which is currently being perpetuated by women who call themselves feminists. The books goes through a history of feminism and then takes a turn to highlight how in the 21st century the word has truly lost its meaning. Women now feel that they have to get naked or as close to naked as possible to make their point...I loved how she describes how the USA olympic swimming team had to pose for a male men's magazine in compromising clothes and positions like their sporting achievements did not matter! Its a great read!

As some of you know in my short career, I have worked for an international NGO and currently work in consulting and in my dealings with the NGO and Development world I have been left with a bitter taste in my mouth. Graham Hancock is an excellent writer and has done a fantastic job with this book, essentially the book is about how NGOs and so called "development agencies" betray the trust of poor people across the world. He has done his research and references conversations with people in different organisations. If you work in the UN system, in an NGO or in a development organisation...I urge you to buy this book.

I got Lords of Poverty from Text Book Centre for Kshs 900.

Have any of you read these books and if so what did you think? What are you guys currently reading?

Touch of Colour; Necklace DIY

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

Hey Kurlies

The other day as I was finally unpacking some boxes, I discovered a pretty necklace that I bought a year ago. As I pulled it out excited ( already thinking how to style it) I found out that it had been ruined, by moisture I believe.

I hate throwing things a way...I am a huge hoarder at heart and decided that something that to be done. I picked up a pretty shade of nail polish and painted the damn thing! Alas, the results were fantastic! It actually now looks like the necklace is made of enamel, Result! Enough of my rambling, have a looksee at the necklace below

The nail polish used, its by Luron and about Kshs 110 bob from Nakumatt

 The finished product, pretty huh?

Any cute DIY ideas you guys have?

This is slowly turning into a travel blog :-). Over Easter, the boyfriend, some friends and I decided to go climb Mt Longonot! Lets just say it was rather painful going up and even worse going down, the views definitely made up for the sore muscles.
Have any of you climbed Mt Longonot and how was it?
