Scissor Happy

Hi Kurlies...Hope you all had an awesome Christmas Day! We did...we have spent the last two days in a food coma.

So since this post, I (Nyachomba) have only been trimming my hair and not necessarily cutting it. My hair is super curly and has an s-curl to it...which makes it more prone to single strand knots and lots of interlocking hairs which cause bigger knots that hang on to the ends of my hair. This makes doing my hair rather tedious and unnecessarily painful. I am completely fed up!

I have decided to go for a haircut before the new year, I am looking into the following styles as inspiration!

Do you guys ever get the itch to cut your hair? For those who like wearing your hair short, any tips on maintenance? Happy Thursday Folks

Heeeeeey!!! Glad I'm not the only one cutting. I'm going for the female version 'box-cut'. Scared and excited. To scissors and 2013!! :-D

Last year I cut my hair from a big fro to the size similar to the picture you have of kelis on the right. I really liked it. WAY more manageable, and my face was no longer hiding behind my hair. Got lots of compliments. I have since transitioned to Locs, but I always advocate for a seasonal hair cut!

I like the cut on Kelis on the right, it's the color that drew me in. My favorite is the girl with purple lipstick, hair frames her face well but not too long either. I don't have the itch to cut my hair, I live in a cold climate so for me it's also insulation:). But these pictures have me thinking it could be fun to try. The easy maintenance can't be beat.
If I had to pick a style for curly hair: An asymmetrical cut could be interesting i.e. one side of the head longer than the other. (Example NaturalSelection Blog, Cassadie had something like that a while ago). I also like the versions with shorter sides(not a fade) and longer on top, more styling options. For tighter coils/kinky hair, probably a box cut, or all around, (same-length-everywhere) short like Jill Scott or Viola Davis.

Strictly not scissor happy! I salute ufor wanting to cut your hair, but it is not for me at this stage in life. I am not a morning person and I need to be at work at 8 having made a forty minutes travel and 10 minutes dog walk....I.e. not time for short hair! My hair has never been past shoulder length and now it is just past shoulder length. So am hanging on to all the length I can do, I still dust and trim split edges with a microscope.......I want long hair like yesterday, no scissor allowed for me!

if yo have the itch to cut your hair then go for it, it will be something new to try and im sure you will rock the look.short natural hair really is easier to manage plus if you're not one of those people on a strict hair growth journey which i dont think you are then you can always grow it back..
do it miss...show me pictures.

Hi Nyachomba,

I cut my hair before christmas. Do it, if it's what you want to do. No point in being afraid of losing length if length is not your goal. Hair grows back. I did the short cut similar to Kelis's length and love it. The cut for me has cut down on styling time, washing time and moisturising time and added lots of compliments. I'm looking forward to growing my hair out again and caring for it as always. Then who knows the possibilities of what the following hair year will bring.
Happy new year and happy deciding

10 years worth of locks off my head on 31/12/2012. I said to myself....new year, new do. So I am going BALD....yes, I said it....BALD in creating a (old) new looking me. I feel so much better as I really wanted a change and I kept admiring girls with short or very cropped hair. The ease of managing. No more worrying about nasty looking growth etc. And my head feels much lighter. I say....go for it if you really want to. Good luck!

I might actually do a story on my hair and email it to you to publish on your blog.

I have a MAJOR case of shrinkage. On a daily basis my hair looks like kelis though once straightened it is shoulder length, unfortunately this has meant that I very rarely show length but the plus has been low maintenance as well as the option to have long hair if I want. I LOVE short hair, I think it takes a confident, sexy powerful woman to pull it off. Long hair is a dime a dozen, but I do think that short hair is statement hair. Being in a highly male centered career, I think going against the grain in terms of my hair helps me stand out as an individual.

Needless to say, CUT CUT CUT...most liberating experience ever - having short hair that is.
